WORLD HERITAGE VOLUNTEERING

The Youth Action Work Camp is an initiative adopted from the UNSECO World Heritage Volunteer Actions across the Globe. The World Heritage Volunteers (WHV) initiative was launched in 2008 to mobilize and involve young people and youth organizations in World Heritage preservation and promotion.

Objectives

  1. To raise awareness among young people, volunteers, local communities, and concerned authorities of the need to protect and promote World Heritage.

  2.  To get young people involved in World Heritage preservation through concrete projects at sites, allowing them to learn new skills and express ideas.

  3. Provide young people with opportunities to learn basic preservation and conservation techniques.

  4.  Foster cooperation between local youth organizations, communities, site management and authorities.

  5.  Identify best practices and develop non-formal education tools to facilitate stakeholders’ participation in the World Heritage education.

Youth 2 youth lunched its first international camp in Zimbabwe on 13th June, 2014. It will be hosting similar events in the heritage sites preserving the environment while conservation of wild life and the natural inhabitants in the area is promoted. The camps also facilitate unique leadership trainings, team building, experiential learning and exposure visits to site; promoting culture appreciation and exploration.
